Rotary begins Fabulous February Fun-raiser

The Jan. 27 meeting of Jacksonville Rotary Club was called to order at noon at Hamilton’s by President Lisa Kluge.

We recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang one verse of “America.”

Lisa thanked today’s volunteers: Jan Ryan, Alberta Robinson, Dave Fisher, Keith Lape, Rick Kluge, Ed Wainscott, Todd Evans, April Clarke, Sharon Zuiderveld, Dan Lepper and Lynne Sheaff.

Ed led us in “In the Good Old Summer Time”  and “Smile.”

• PolioPlus jars are on the table

• FFF needs donations of a grill or a cooler and Jacksonville High School gear for the Fabulous February Fun-raiser. Donations should be in by Feb 1, when the online auction begins.

• Bass Tournament is April 2. Dave and Joey encouraged all members to participate and issued a financial challenge to us all.

• Scholar-Athlete Banquet Committee meeting, 5 pm. Feb 2 at McAllisters.

• Green Committee meeting, 8:30 a.m. Feb. 6 at Kim’s Place

• Membership Committee meeting, noon Feb. 6 at the chamber offices

• Community Service Committee meeting, 4 p.m. Feb. 6 at The Salvation Army

• First Monday social, 5 p.m. Feb. 6 at Bahans.

Lisa welcomed our guests: Anna, Chris Clarke and Savannah Tighe. We sang a song of welcome.

She also recognized January birthdays and we sang “Happy Birthday.”

Recognitions were led by Todd Evans, who announced he had thoroughly searched his home and found no classified papers. He also recognized Ginny and Sharon. Rotations were made by Dan Lepper, Ryan Byers, Bertie Robinson, Jim Hinchen and Joan McQuillan.

Garden club gears up for spring plant sales

Morgan County Garden Club will hold its February meeting at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at Prairie Land Heritage Museum. Karen Sibert, dietitian at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital, will present the program on “Eating for a Healthy Heart.”

Anne McKean is scheduled to give the 5-Minute Talk. Refreshments will be served beginning at 1 p.m. by our hostess committee, including Joyce Ginder, Karen Nolan, Linda Settles and Deb Rust.

The nominations committee will propose a slate of new officers at the meeting.

The club has announced the dates of its spring plant sales, which will be in the Prairie Land Heritage Museum building from 4 to 6 p.m. April 25 and from 9 a.m. to noon May 20.

Jacksonville Christian Women’s Connection

Jacksonville Christian Women’s Connection will have a luncheon meeting and program starting at noon Feb. 21 at Hamilton’s, 110 N. East St.

The title of the program is “Love Makes the World Go Round.”

The lunch is $12 and the venue is handicapped-accessible.

Musician and storyteller Mike Anderson will have a program.

Guest speaker Jennifer Smith of Jacksonville will speak on “Servant of Christ: The Ultimate Role.” Smith is a world traveler and missionary with time spent in 82 countries.

Reservations are required by Feb. 17 and can be made by calling Mary at 217-243-2322. 

The non-denominational Christian Women’s Connection is affiliated with Stonecroft.
