What To Take On Your Summer Vacation
Emily P. Wheeler 18K yellow gold Groove Necklace with pink tourmaline, demantoid garnet, and enamel
This is the time of year when many readers take a vacation. If you are traveling strictly in the U.S., you might be spending quiet time at your beach or country homes, visiting family in other states, taking off to the desert or a resort town, checking out festivals or going on a cross-country road trip. If you are more adventurous, you might visit cities with ancient architecture and/or take in cultural aspects. You could spend time on a Greek Island, the Amalfi Coast, or travel through Spain or Portugal. I can keep listing different holiday plans—but if your flight isn’t canceled and you travel safe, the next thing to consider is what jewelry to take. (Okay—maybe if you are camping—its what flashlight and bug repellent) but what we do here is talk about jewels. And there are some spectacular pieces, which can take you from a day at the beach to sightseeing to a night dancing. There are lowkey and comfortable pieces for those who want just a few essentials that you can wear repeatedly.
The two categories best for travel jewelry are those that continue to trend —fun, chic, vibrantly colored jewels and gold with a touch of diamonds. You can combine the two or choose one direction in how you want to bejewel yourself while you are away from home.
A pop of color in a carved pink tourmaline and the glimmer of gold by Christina Axelliou add color and character while seeing the sites or dining outdoors.
